CitySocialising: About us

CitySocialising Leeds: Networking and making friends in Leeds.

London-based CEO & founder of CitySocialising, Sanchita Saha, first identified the need for a service to help professional newcomers to the city integrate more easily into life in the Capital, in 2004 whilst working at the BBC. From being aware of the isolating experiences that many of her peers faced, when moving to London knowing no-one, she felt she wanted to find a way to easily connect them with like minded others, so they could create their own new social networks quickly and easily and start exploring and making the most of the city's great social scene.

In 2005, with initial funding from the Prince's Trust, she set up a trial website (TheSocialService.com) and began researching and developing her idea. Her ambition was to create a trusted online and offline community through which sociable, laid-back professionals could connect with each other platonically in the real world, not just in cyberworld.

CitySocialising officially launched in London in January 2007 and now over half of our members in the Capital are seasoned Londoners and London professionals seeking an easy and relaxed way to simply meet a few new local friends (beyond their usual social/work crowd) with shared interests and make the most of their social lives and London's vibrant social scene.

Because of the fantastic response to CitySocialising in London, following its huge success at connecting thousands in the city with genuine new networks of friends for life, by October 2007 CitySocialising launched nationwide in seven other UK cities, and we now enable our fast-growing network, of over 23,000 members across the UK, to connect with each other, find new local friends with shared interests and enjoy their social lives in their city to the max!

The idea for CitySocialising came from our research into the social requirements of professionals living and working in UK cities. We found that a huge percentage of those in their 20s and 30s were particularly interested in meeting people and expanding their circle of friends, and identified that this was because:
  • There's a higher likelihood of people in this age group relocating to new cities for work or with partners, arriving with none or few friends in the area.

  • Existing friends are more likely to be settling in relationships or moving away in their 20s & 30s, meaning that finding new friends to socialise with is more appealing.

  • Social lives can become stale, or social circles dissipate after relationship breakdowns, and opportunities to meet new people are reduced.

  • Increasing demands at work allows less time to organise the social lives that suit them.
CitySocialising combines a unique online and offline approach to meeting, connecting and socialising with fun-loving, down-to-earth and sociable city professionals who live or work in the same areas, share the same interests and outlook. We organise an offline program of regular social days and nights out ('Socials') and support these with online social networking features to help members find the friends that suit them, get in touch and stay in touch.
